Plumbing Services
The Water & Waste plumbing section is responsible for:
- Plumbing assessment and inspections on plumbing work on all buildings in the Cairns regional area. They also issue compliance certificates.
- Inspection and testing on water supply and sewage installation in new subdivisions.
- Assessment and approval of applications for buildings over or adjacent to Council's sewer mains, and relocation of sewer mains.
- Assessment and approval of applications for water services greater than 20mm.
- For development in sewered areas (copies of sewerage plans are available.)
On-site Treatment in unsewered Areas
For development in unsewered areas a site and soil evaluation report is required to be submitted to Water & Waste for approval prior to a building certifier issuing a building approval.

Backflow Prevention
Testable back flow prevention valves are to be tested and registered annually. A registration fee applies, please refer to the fees and charges schedule. Test results are recorded by Water & Waste and a renewal notice will be issued on the anniversary date of the installation.
