Established a Sister City relationship in 1987.

That bond has been very firmly cemented and a warm and friendly relationship exists between the two cities.

Though Scottsdale is in a desert and Cairns is the opposite, being situated by the sea, the difference geographically is not a barrier to the constant exchange of people, ideas, cultures, and our youth.

Cairns welcomes the many Scottsdale residents who choose our city as their holiday destination. The Cairns committee for Scottsdale provides support and fellowship and that hospitality is reciprocated when our citizens visit Scottsdale.

Our youth, especially, features prominently in our exchange program. There is an enthusiastic committee for our younger people who maintain strong links with the youth of Scottsdale and when the opportunities are there for social, educational, sporting, and other exchanges, they are taken up with enthusiasm.

The Sister Cities relationship between Cairns and Scottsdale has the basis for a long and lasting bond of friendship and respect.
