"Youth Development is about providing all young people with positive experiences and opportunities which enhance their strengths and capacity, which affirm them as contributors to their communities and shapers of their own future. Through youth development, communities are able to recognise, value, support and encourage young people's contribution." (Taken from Good Practice in Youth Development; Ausyouth 2001)
Cairns City Council's Youth Development officer provides advocacy for young people in local government processes, assists in the strategic planning of youth services in Cairns and develops partnerships between government and non-government organisations to address the needs of young people.
The Cairns Youth Services Network supports, promotes and encourages youth participation.
