Cairns City is located in Far North Queensland and is well known as one of Australia's premier tourist destinations. It offers an enviable blend of coastal and hinterland lifestyles and provides the gateway to two of the world's most spectacular natural attractions, the Great Barrier Reef and the Wet Tropics rainforests.
The city covers a total area of 1,670 sq km and walking and cycling are an integral part of living in and touring around Cairns. The coastal location, favourable topography and climate make it extremely well suited to pedestrian and cycle travel and Cairns now boasts a very high proportion of residents and visitors, who choose to walk and cycle for transport, recreation and fitness purposes.
Cairns City Council is proud to be encouraging an active and healthy Cairns by establishing an extensive network of off-road and on-road facilities for cyclists and pedestrians across the urban area.
